Unplugging: Breaking Free from the Dopamine Loopš±
Iāve been craving more and more boundaries around my screen time lately. My work naturally involves being onlineāwhether Iām writing, coaching, or recording. Even the things I love, like reading about spirituality and mindset, often lead me right back into work mode with my mind buzzing with new insights I want to share.
This has made me wonder: What am I engaging in that doesnāt involve a screen or the left side of my brain?
I started digging into the science behind why we crave screens so much, and it turns out our brains are wired to seek those little dopamine hits every time we check our phone, scroll social media, or get a notification. But hereās the catch: the more we get these hits, the more we need them to feel satisfied. Itās a cycle that keeps us reaching for our devices without even thinking. Some studies show people check their phones an average of 144 times per day. Wild, right?
So, how do we break that loop?
It requires intentional time doing activities that break the pattern. For me, it looks like:
ā Walks outside to clear my mind
ā Workouts that reconnect me to my body
ā Reading fiction (because spiritual books still make me think about work!)
ā Colouring (yes, adult colouring books are a thing, and I love them!)
ā Cooking and baking (Iām waiting for my new kitchen reno to be complete, so weāll see how that unfolds š)
ā Creative hobby (Iām open to suggestions here because so far nothing has stuck)
What about you? What do you do when you are fully unplugged?
When we step away from distractions, we give ourselves the space to be truly presentāwhether thatās with loved ones, in nature, or simply with ourselves.
I had the most incredible conversation on the Spiritually Wired Podcast with Portia Chambers, who has done a beautiful job of unplugging and embracing presence. She shares what it means to truly disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with what matters most.

So, hereās a little challenge for the week:
āØ Check your screen time (your phone shows your daily averageābrace yourself)
āØ Pick one unplugged activity and commit to it daily (even for 15 minutes)
āØ Pay attention to how you feelādo you get restless? Crave your phone? Or do you feel clearer and more present?
By creating space to unplug, we create space for deeper creativity, joy, and connection.
P.S. Message me on instagram and tell meāwhatās your favourite unplugged activity? Iād love to hear!
Remember to slow down, breathe, and trust that you are spiritually wired for your dreams ā theyāre already waiting for you.
