What if your life was a movie?🎬
What if your life was a movie and you’ve been playing a character you didn’t consciously choose? That’s the thread running through this week’s podcast conversation.
In Vedic wisdom, there’s a concept called Maya: illusion. One of the things that gets revealed the deeper you go on a spiritual path is that not everything is as it seems. Reality is far more layered, more fluid, more of an illusion than we’re taught.
Don Miguel Ruiz writes about how every single person is living inside their own reality. Their own little world. And so much of our suffering comes from the unconscious assumption that everyone else sees life the way we do and feels things the way we do.
The truth is they don’t.
This week I sat down with Cortney McDermott on the podcast, and she shares something powerful.
The word person comes from the Latin word persona. Or mask. Or character.
Which means so much of what we call “living” is actually performing. Playing a role that was shaped by our conditioning, our past, our inherited ideas of who we’re supposed to be. And the longer we play it, the more it calcifies – until the character and the self feel like the same thing.
Cortney takes these ideas: consciousness, manifestation, intuition, identity – and brings them somewhere grounded and real. We talk about consciousness as your most advanced technology. We explore manifestation not as forcing or controlling outcomes, but as imagining a library with infinite possibilities already inside it – and doing the inner work to match the frequency of what you want, rather than trying to control it.
This conversation was everything. Cortney has one of those rare minds that can blend academic depth and spiritual wisdom in the same breath – and make it feel completely natural.
